Belgium's telecoms regulator, IBPT-BIPT, has ruled against telecom operators in the country, stating that technology giants such as Google and Microsoft should not be required to pay for 5G and broadband rollout. Telecom operators had called for "fair share funding," but the regulator believes that the need for compensation is not established. The regulator also noted that there is sufficient capital available for network roll-out and that decreasing unit costs can offset the costs associated with increasing network traffic.
